I joined the ReelWorld team in 2015 having worked at major UK radio brands including Smooth, Magic and Absolute Radio creating imaging that was heard by millions of listeners each week. As well as producing imaging, I have also led breakfast shows. That gave me a sound knowledge of how things work on air and I pride myself on making imaging that is radio ready. I now oversee the ReelWorld European imaging team based in Manchester, UK and produce for multiple Production Vault formats specialising in AC and Hot AC.
1. When did you know Radio Imaging was the job for you?
When I was 15 years old I decided I wanted to be a radio presenter so I spent my summer doing work experience at my local radio station with the breakfast show. After a few weeks I realised that talking to myself for hours on end wasn’t what excited me, however the imaging and jingles that were being played throughout the show really did . . . and that was where it all started.
2. What (or who) motivates you or gets you excited about producing?
I love it when I hear something that I have produced playing on the radio, especially if I’m out in the car or in a shop and I’m not expecting it. I feel proud and think to myself “oooh I made that”!
3. What’s the toughest part about being an imaging producer?
Keeping things sounding new, fresh and creative. I mean how many ways are there to promote Taylor Swift’s 1989 Tour World Tour!?!
4. What’s the difference between Good imaging and Great imaging?
Good imaging does what it says on the tin. A piece of great imaging, however, can instantly influence the emotions.
5. What’s the #1 piece of advice you’d like to give new producers just learning the game?
Learn the basics, get awesome at the basics, and grow from there. Good things come to those who work hard, there’s no shortcut.
